Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement and the Grade 10 Career Studies Mark

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, students who entered Grade 9 in the 2025-26 school year and years following must complete a Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement to earn their high school diploma. Ontario students taking Grade 10 Career Studies (GLC2O) complete the Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement (FLGR) in class.

The FLGR helps students demonstrate important financial literacy skills and knowledge. Students must achieve a minimum of 70% on the FLGR to meet this graduation requirement.

How does the FLGR affect the Grade 10 Career Studies mark?

The FLGR is worth 5% of a student's final GLC2O mark. The student's actual percentage result on the FLGR is used to calculate this portion of the course mark.

For example:

FLGR Result

Graduation Requirement

Contribution to Final GLC2O mark

80%

Met

4.0 percentage points

70%

Met

3.5 percentage points

60%

Not yet met

3.0 percentage points

What if a student does not achieve 70%?

Students have two opportunities to successfully complete the FLGR. If a student completes the assessment twice, the higher result is used when calculating the FLGR portion of the GLC2O mark.

For example, if a student receives 65% on the first attempt and 75% on the second attempt, the 75% result is used. The student has met the graduation requirement, and the FLGR contributes 3.75 percentage points toward the final GLC2O mark.

If a student does not achieve 70% after two attempts, the higher of the two results is still used when calculating the FLGR portion of the GLC2O mark. The school will work with the student and family regarding next steps for meeting the Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement.

How is the final GLC2O mark calculated?

Under the new September 2026 assessment/evaluation requirements the final Grade 10 Career Studies mark is based on:

Component

Weight

Classroom/course work

65%

Attendance and Participation

15%

Culminating Task

15%

Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement

5%

TOTAL

100%

The FLGR is both a graduation requirement and a component of the Grade 10 Career Studies mark. A result of 70% or higher means that the student has successfully completed the Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement.

Families with questions about the FLGR or their child's results are encouraged to contact their child's school.
