Registration for 2021-22 Secondary Remote Learning is August 3-12, 2021

August 3, 2021

The Upper Grand District School Board is looking forward to welcoming students back in September 2021.

The UGDSB will offer a remote learning option for students in the 2021-22 school year. Please note that the UGDSB remote learning program for the 2021-22 school year will NOT be a “hybrid model.” Students who register for remote school will be placed in standalone remote learning, where classes are staffed by dedicated remote learning teachers.

Please see below for information about 2021-22 Secondary Remote Learning and to register for remote learning.

*Registration for secondary remote learning is open from August 3-12, 2021. Only students wanting to participate in remote learning in Semester 1 should fill out a registration form. Students who are attending school in person should not fill out a registration form.

Please register before the deadline of August 12, 2021, at 4pm. To register your child please click the following link and complete the Registration Form: http://ow.ly/uaiW50FGvko

Secondary In-Person Learning

In-person learning for Grade 9-12+ students in 2021-22 will include the following:

Secondary Remote Learning Information

While we believe that in-person learning best supports students, we recognize that some families may want their child to learn remotely, due to their unique circumstances.

Families should be aware that there will be some differences in the remote learning program in 2021-22 compared to what we were able to offer in the 2020-21 school year. For instance, with more students expected to return to in-person learning, our ability to offer a similar breadth of remote programs as was offered during the 2020-2021 school may be limited. Additionally, the decision families make about remote learning vs in-person learning for 2021-22 will be for the entire high school semester, as movement between learning modes can cause disruptions for many students and classrooms.

Secondary Remote Daily Schedule

Students enrolled in the Secondary Remote Learning will take two courses per day. Attendance will be taken daily. Students will be required to follow a daily schedule and timetable. Programming will be based on the full Ontario curriculum for each course and include opportunities for guided instruction, large and small-group learning, synchronous learning, and asynchronous independent work.

Secondary Remote French Immersion

The UGDSB cannot offer French Immersion (FI) programming as a secondary remote option, given the limited availability of qualified French Immersion teachers. Those students wanting to enrol in secondary FI programming should consider in-person learning.

Special Education and Specialized Class Placements

We believe that in-person learning is the best format to support students with special education needs, particularly those in congregated classes and alternative education programs. For students enrolled in specialized class placements (e.g. Developmentally Delayed/Life Skills), we strongly encourage in-person instruction as these programs are much better served in person. There will be special education supports for students in the remote learning option, however, we may not be able to offer specialized classes in remote learning this school year.

Secondary Remote Registration

Registration for Secondary Remote Learning is from August 3-12, 2021. Please remember this decision is for the entirety of Semester 1. Students and families will have an opportunity to choose between remote or in-person learning before the start of Semester 2.

To register your child for the 2021-22 Secondary Remote Learning option please click the following link and complete the Registration Form: http://ow.ly/uaiW50FGvko

Do not complete the Registration Form if you would like your child(ren) to attend school in-person.

Secondary Remote Course Selection

Students enrolling in Secondary Remote Learning must complete their course selection by August 13, 2021, at 4pm. Students are asked to complete their course selection through their myBlueprint account (found on the UGCloud landing page).

Based on sufficient numbers, staff will do their best to provide remote learning students with their preferred classes for the next quadmester, but there may be cases where alternative courses will need to be selected. Please note that with remote learning, there may not be the ability to completely replicate everything from the regular school environment or offer the breadth/types of courses available in in-person learning. In particular, this would include courses such as tech (e.g, automotive, welding, construction), French Immersion, other performance based courses like music, arts, and drama.
