December 11, 2019

GUELPH, Ontario – Three schools in the Upper Grand District School Board have been named finalists in the 2019 CBC Music Class Challenge.

John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute, Paisley Road Public School and Rickson Ridge Public School have all advanced to the final round in the annual music challenge.

According to CBC, this year an estimated 50,000 students from across the country signed up to learn and perform a version of a Canadian song.

In this round, judges selected the top 10 finalists in each category.

Paisley Road PS is a finalist in the Primary Vocal category for the Primary Choir’s rendition of Eva Avila’s “Shine.”

John F. Ross CVI and Rickson Ridge PS are both in the top 10 finalists for the MusiCounts Passion Prize category.

John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute’s Life Skills Class submitted their version of “Shine.” The students in the class attend music class once a week and work together on dance, singing, drumming and playing instruments.

Rickson Ridge Public School decided to make this a school-wide project for their version of Desirée Dawson’s “Just Fine.” The video features students from JK to grade 8 lining the halls to sing the song.

Congratulations to John F. Ross CVI, Paisley Road PS and Rickson Ridge PS for making the finals and to all the UGDSB music classes that participated this year!

The winners will be announced on Tuesday Dec. 17.
