GUELPH, Ontario – The fresh taste of farming was the focus of the educational tents at the International Plowing Match, held all this week in the Town of Minto.

More than 6,000 students from the Upper Grand District School Board and surrounding boards attended the expo, watching performances, viewing exhibits and participating in interactive activities.

Inside the educational tents, exhibitors taught students about where the food on their table comes from and about farm animals including cows and pigs. The students also got a hands-on experience with a few goats and alpacas.

Students also explored farm machinery displays and demonstrations and learned about the history of agriculture in Ontario.

Sharon Williams and Lynne Lytle, teachers at Minto-Clifford Public School and co-chairs of the IPM Educational Committee, were instrumental in dreaming up and creating the educational tents, which saw a steady stream of students and families stream through over the course of the expo.
