Are you in or are you out? UGDSB classes celebrate Take Me Outside Day

October 24, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – It may have been chilly, but that didn’t stop staff and students from bundling up and spending time outdoors on Wednesday.

October 24 was Take Me Outside Day, an opportunity for schools across Canada to show the importance of getting outside.

The evidence is mounting – getting kids outside is critical to their health and well-being, and adults benefit from the time in nature too.

Upper Grand classes took part in Take Me Outside Day in a big way, despite rain in some regions and snow in others. Classes connected with nature, played in the mud and leaves, learned about their natural surroundings on natures walks, and much more.

Many UGDSB classrooms make sure that outdoor learning is a part of students’ every day experience –Take Me Outside Day was a great opportunity to celebrate outdoor learning and extend classroom learning beyond four walls.

The UGDSB has resources available to all schools and school staff to help them extend classroom learning outdoors, including ideas for five-minute fieldtrips, outdoor curriculum ideas, nature challenges and more, all available to staff on UGshare.
