April 4, 2017
HILLSBURGH, Ontario – On March 31, students and staff at Ross R. MacKay Public School welcomed Jael Richardson, author of The Stone Thrower.
This isn’t the first time that Richardson visited Upper Grand – in November she gave a keynote address at the UGDSB Literacy Symposium.
The Stone Thrower: A Daughter’s Lesson, a Father’s Life is a memoir, which is based on her relationship with her father. This book received a CBC Bookie Award. In addition to being an author, Richardson currently serves as the Artistic Director for the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) in Brampton.
While visiting Ross R. MacKay PS, Richardson shared how she became an author and talked to students about equity, perseverance and the importance of dreaming big.
Students and staff were engaged by the author’s visit and were inspired with the message she had to share.
