May 14, 2021

GUELPH, Ontario – A student at Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute has recently been awarded the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarship.

The Schulich Leader Scholarship is awarded to 100 students across Canada each year by partner universities. Each student is awarded funds to pursue an undergraduate degree in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

This year, CCVI student Andrew D. was awarded $80,000 to be used at the University of Waterloo where he will be pursuing Computer Science through the school’s co-op program.

According to his teacher Adam Wallace, “Andy is the most impressive mathematics student I have taught in my 12-year career. He is a well-balanced young man who excels in many pursuits and consistently seeks new challenges. Andy is exceedingly kind and genuine, while remaining humble and confident in his abilities.”

Wallace continued to say, “I am fully confident that Andy will be successful and exceptional at the next level of his education. He possesses the rare combination of ability, potential and drive to be successful wherever he ends up.”

During his time at CCVI, Andrew has been involved in many programs including Centennial’s DECA chapter, has been a participant in many programing competitions including being a member of the JRMPC (James Robertson Memorial Programming Competition) team and participant in the Canadian Computing Olympiad.

Andrew’s teachers know that he will succeed once leaving high school and look forward to watching his career path as he grows in his post-secondary education.

Congratulations Andrew and good luck at the University of Waterloo.
