CCVI teacher wins silver medal at World Judo Championships

October 18, 2019

GUELPH, Ontario – Centennial CVI teacher Amanda McAlpine continues to shine on the world stage. McAlpine won the silver medal at the 2019 Veteran World Judo Championships, held in Morocco earlier this month.

Over the last few years, McAlpine has seen her hard work and dedication to her sport really pay off, climbing in the ranks in international competition. Last year, McAlpine placed fourth at the World Championships, just missing the podium.

The Veteran World Judo Championships took place in Marrakech  between October 10 and 13 and saw competitors from five different continents and 49 nations.

“The ‘Road to Marrakech’ has been a very challenging one in many ways and I’m proud of the person I am becoming as a result of the struggle– I believe we all have the opportunity to work towards becoming better versions of ourselves through the challenges put in our path,” said McAlpine.

Not only is the experience of competing internationally an amazing one for the Guelph teacher, it also has changed how she approaches her role in the school environment.

“I believe these training and competition experiences have enlarged my capacity to both pay it forward and increase my capacity to help others as a teacher,” she said.

Congratulations Amanda!
