CWDHS hosts elementary school wrestling tournament

May 3, 2023

FERGUS, Ontario – Elementary students from several Upper Grand DSB schools were in Fergus on Wednesday, competing in the annual wrestling tournament, hosted by Centre Wellington District High School.

This year, 42 wrestlers in grades 7 and 8 from John Black Public School, Elora Public School, JD Hogarth Public School, and area Catholic schools participated.

This is the sixth or seventh year for the tournament, which had to take a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. CWDHS teacher and organizer of the event, Dave Ritter, was thrilled to see the students enjoying the tournament again this year.

Several CW high school students were also involved in the event, doing everything from setting up and score-keeping, to coaching the younger athletes. CWDHS students also help with coaching throughout the year.

Many of the elementary students who participate in the tournament will attend CWDHS when the enter high school, so it is a great way to get introduced to the school.
