CWDHS student competes in World Ringette Championships

November 8, 2023

FERGUS, ON — Congratulations to Emma M. from Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) who competed at the World Ringette Championship from Oct. 29 to Nov. 4.

Each of the games that Canada participated in they played with passion and fervour, “The games were very, very close. For the U18, there were not enough teams for a round robin, so we only played Finland – who is usually the top of the world, however Canada competes very well with them,” said Emma.

Emma described that the game against Finland was a constant back-and-forth, “Although we outshot them and had more possession of the ring, we lost 9-7.”

Emma said that the experience competing at such a high, competitive and fast level was “definitely amazing.”

Leading up to the championships, Emma said that she “was absolutely ecstatic” when she found out she made the Canada East team. In the summer, Emma was asked to attend the U18 selection camp in Calgary for a week, “I’ve loved training with other girls from coast to coast, learning from them, creating new friendships, and growing my game overall.”

Emma said that the overall experience has reinforced the idea in her how important it is to go after what you love and fight for your dreams.
