Educators to join for UGDSB Early Years Symposium

November 21, 2019

FERGUS, Ontario – This weekend, more than 150 early years educators will be coming together on November 23 for the Upper Grand District School Board Early Years Symposium.

On Saturday, 150 early years educators from the UGDSB and 20 educators from community childcare partners will be at Centre Wellington District High School for a full day of learning.

The symposium will begin with a keynote address from Dr. Susan Hopkins from the Mehrit Centre. Hopkins is an educator and advocate for early childhood development. Her career has spanned every area of education. She is currently Executive Director of the Mehrit Centre, an organization dedicated to supporting self-regulation in children and adults.

Educators will have the opportunity to attend breakout sessions throughout the day. Breakouts include topics like self-regulation, literacy, math, critical and creative thinking, technology in the early years and many more.

This year, in the 16 breakout sessions there are more than 25 UGDSB educators presenting the work they are doing to support learning in kindergarten and grade 1.

The event is intended to be a ‘Celebration of the Early Years’ as staff shine a light on the great work happening in the UGDSB.

We look forward to welcoming so many early year educators to the symposium.
