Elementary student designs Upper Grand’s holiday card

December 19, 2023

GUELPH, ON – Earlier this year, Upper Grand District School Board staff put out a call for submissions for a student-designed art piece to be featured on this year’s Season’s Greeting eCard.

We are happy to announce that the artwork selected came from a grade 5 student from Jean Little Public School named Emily S.

“In this grade 5 watercolour art project, the goal was to create a peaceful and calm scene reminiscent of early winter, using the elements of space and colour to achieve that imagery. The open sky, a wintery slate grey, is shaded from dark to light over the pine woods, and the trees are created using layers of green and deep blue, with shading to create the illusion of depth. In every holiday tradition at this time of year, we find the theme of peace and light, and at this perilous time in the world, Ms. Johnston’s class felt the message of peace on earth is needed more than ever. The hope was to create art that gives people a feeling of calm and hopefulness as we head into a new year and reflects our heartfelt wish for peace around the world.”

Congratulations Emily for submitting such a lovely art piece.
