Elora PS students celebrate the holidays by giving

January 13, 2017

ELORA, Ontario – Grade 5 to 7 students at Elora Public School celebrated the holidays by embracing tradition. For the second year, students participated in the Green Gryphon Holiday Gift Shop.

During the three weeks leading up to the holiday break, students collected hundreds of gently used items that could be resold at the shop. This event was student run, with students making announcements and creating advertisements and posters for the event.

The event ran for two days and saw a lot of excitement from students and staff. Students from every grade were prepared with toonies and loonies to shop for gifts for their family members and friends.

The students that organized the event helped younger students shop for gifts. Once the gifts were chosen, the wrapping team wrapped and labelled purchases using newspapers and donated gift bags.

The money collected during the event went to local organizations. During the event, the store collected $1,845.00. The money was divided into three equal shares and was donated to Groves Memorial Community Hospital, the Elora Centre for the Arts and the Elora Cataract Trailway.

Elora PS is recognized as a gold level Eco school and students were pleased to know that their purchases of used items helped the environment this holiday season.
