Green Industries students showcase skills at CHSS Halloween design competition

November 1, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – CHSS Huskies celebrated Halloween with a design competition that allowed them to showcase their skills.

On Wednesday, 19 students from the school’s Green Industries program competed in close competition during College Heights SS’s Halloween floral design event.

The event was organized by Ms. Peterson’s grade 11 SHSM Horticulture and Landscaping students. It featured the work of students in grades 9 through 12 in three categories: Halloween wreaths, spooky cup centrepieces and pumpkin carving.

Students worked in class and at lunch to collaboratively plan the event, register competitors, manage schedules, select criteria, and organize materials, work sessions, entries and displays.

“I really enjoyed making an opportunity for people to push themselves outside of their comfort zone and be creative,” said grade 11 Student Coordinator Lizzie.

Congratulations to all students involved for their creativity and excellent designs. Special thanks to the CHSS Library for hosting and to the esteemed judges, teacher and SHSM Lead Caryl Durst, and resident design maven and Administrative Assistant to the Vice-Principal, Susan Knabenschuh.
