Highlights from the special July 2013 Board Meeting

GUELPH, Ontario — The Upper Grand District School Board held a Special Board Meeting on Tuesday July 9, 2013. The following are highlights from the meeting.

Special Education Report (2012-13) and Special Education Plan (2013-14)

Superintendent of Program, Doug Morrell and Sandra Szpular, Special Education Coordinator/Collaborative Projects Lead presented the Report and the Plan. The Report provides information on the past school year’s Special Education programs and services. It was received by the board and will be posted on the board’s website. The Plan for the 2013-14 school year was approved by trustees and will be forwarded to the Ministry by the end of July as required. The Plan will also be posted on the website. A minority report forwarded by several members of the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) was received by the board.

Senior Administration Organization

Several senior staff have retired from the board and Erin Kelly, Superintendent of Education has resigned to take up the position of Director of Education for the Greater Essex County Board of Education (effective August 9, 2013). As a result, the areas of responsibility for the Senior Administration have been altered and two superintendents will be hired – Superintendent of Program and (elementary) Superintendent of Education. Postings for the positions will be available today. Trustees were named to the Superintendents’ Selection Committee. Bob Borden, Jennifer Waterston, Susan Moziar and Mark Bailey (ex-officio, Chair of the Board) will serve on the Committee. It is expected that the hiring will be completed by early August to facilitate smooth transitions.

The next Regular Monthly Meeting of the Board will be held on Tuesday August 27, 2013. The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m. in the Guelph Board Office at 500 Victoria Road North. Everyone is welcome to attend.
