Inside the TJRC: 7 Fun Facts about the Terry James Resource Centre

July 13, 2023

The Terry James Resource Centre (TJRC) is the Upper Grand District School Board’s one-stop-shop for materials and resources for UGDSB staff. From the media centre and resource centre to 3D printing, and online resources, the TJRC has everything staff need to succeed and pass that success on to UGDSB students. “Inside the TJRC” is an on-going series that will feature some of the amazing resources that the TJRC has to offer.

The Terry James Resource Centre offers Upper Grand staff and students so many resources, including ones that are available all summer. Learn more about the TJRC below:

  1. The services and resources provided at TJRC are available to all active UGDSB staff – whether you are an educator, an administrator, or a member of a board department, the TJRC is here to help you do what you do best.
  2. The TJRC’s collection of inquiry-based learning kits supports the curriculum across elementary and secondary – but it doesn’t stop there. The kits can be used for icebreakers in staff meetings or problem-solving activities for team building.
  3. The TJRC is named in memory of Terry James, who worked as the Communications Officer at the former Wellington County Board of Education from 1987 to 1993, when she passed away after a lengthy struggle with cancer. Terry was a highly respected professional and a model of courage to all who knew her.
  4. TJRC resources include professional development and personal wellness books to support staff in developing skills for success in life – whatever that looks like to you.
  5. The Media Centre offers full and half-size poster and banner printing services. Use these materials in the classroom for educational purposes, or for training sessions, department meetings, staff socials…the sky’s the limit.
  6. The eBooks and audiobooks available in Sora have great accessibility features to make reading even more enjoyable – think high contrast mode, dyslexia-friendly font, and more.
  7. TJRC staff are available Monday through Friday throughout the school year and summer. If you can’t visit the Guelph board office person, you can contact the team via phone or email – sometimes they can even come to you!
