Island Lake PS hosts students from China

October 10, 2017

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – From October 2 to 6, Island Lake Public School hosted a group of 21 international students and three teachers visiting from China.

The grade 4-6 students attended classes at Island Lake PS for the week. The entire school and Doug Morrell, the Superintendent of Education responsible for the International Student Program, welcomed the visiting students and staff at an assembly on October 2.

The students were buddied up with Island Lake PS students in their host classrooms to get a taste of school in Canada. Island Lake’s community welcomed visitors with open arms and made the most of the opportunity to meet, play with and learn about the visitors from China.

Two Island Lake PS teachers, Mr. Broderick and Ms. Laughton, hosted after-school activities in the gym. The week culminated in a celebration of culture on October 6. All of the host classes and visitors shared in a pizza lunch, a talent show put on by the international students and an exchange of gifts.

Island Lake PS wants to thank Mr. Morrell, and his assistant, Anna Chen, for providing this opportunity for the school to establish global connections and promote inclusiveness.
