James McQueen PS collecting donations for Fort McMurray fire relief

GUELPH, Ontario – All next week, staff, students and parents of James McQueen Public School are collecting funds to help the people of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Massive wild fires in the province triggered the largest fire-related evacuation in Alberta’s history – impacting people in 12 communities, destroying homes and property.

The Canadian Red Cross is collecting donations to help provide accommodations and basic necessities for the 88,000 people forced out of their homes. The federal and provincial governments have pledged to match donations made to the Red Cross.

James McQueen staff are hoping to raise $1,000 to send to the Red Cross, and they are challenge other schools and communities to get involved as well.
