Kortright Hills PS becomes an official Bee School

GUELPH, Ontario – Kortright Hills Public Schools has joined a growing community dedicated to help Canadians understand the importance of pollinators.
The school is now one of the first official Bee Schools in Canada. The program is organized by Bee City Canada, which works to protect pollinators through education.
Over the last two months, the Water Rocker Grade 5 class at Kortright Hills took on the challenge of helping the school become a Bee School.
It was a student-led initiative from beginning to end – students did research, spoke to bee experts, made morning announcements, created posters to put up around the school, and produced numerous bee art activities to spread around the classroom walls.
The class designed a new pollinator garden for the schoolyard and organized a bee celebration day for the entire school where everyone was asked to wear black and yellow.
The message the students spread at the school-wide assembly was, bees, other pollinators and pollinating plants are essential for our world. We should not be afraid of them and we should not use chemicals that could harm them.
