GUELPH, Ontario — Discussions between the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) and the Provincial Government have ended without an agreement being reached. For Upper Grand schools that means that sanctions by unionized members of five bargaining groups begin today (Monday November 12).
Student safety and maintaining the instructional day are the top priorities of the board. Student supervision is an issue and contingency plans are in place at all schools. This will be closely monitored. No schools are closed.
The groups imposing sanctions are:
- Secondary Teachers
- Secondary Occasional Teachers
- Office Clerical and Technical Staff (OCT – secondary and elementary office staff, central clerical staff, IT department)
- Educational Assistants and Early Childhood Educators (EAs, SPAs and ECEs)
- Professional Support Personnel (PSSP – CYCs, social workers, speech and language pathologists)
Elementary teachers and CUPE workers (custodial and maintenance staff) are not in a legal strike position.
At this time secondary teachers have indicated that they will not withdraw from extra-curricular school activities and additional student assistance.
More information will be provided as available.
