Learning resources available to UGDSB students

Ministry of Education Learning Resources

Find supplementary resources for elementary and secondary students to practice math and literacy skills and learn at home. While these materials do not replace what students have been learning at school, during this unusual time, these at-home activities offer quick and easy access to some of Ontario’s best online kindergarten to grade 12 learning resources.

UGDSB Learning Resources for Students

The Upper Grand District School Board is pleased to provide some web-based resources designed to offer safe and engaging activities for our students while schools are closed. This website is maintained by the Board and is available to the students of the Upper Grand District School Board. We encourage parents, guardians and/or caregivers to supervise and assist children to proceed through the content at a pace that is consistent with their abilities.

The content of this web-page is intended to supplement concepts students would normally learn at school. This resource is not intended to replace regular classroom instruction. The content for each grade is organized around the overall expectations found in the Ontario curriculum documents.

While every effort has been made to ensure that the content on the web-page is secure, some links will take students to public websites. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to supervise their child’s online activity.

There are many activities that families can do together that do not involve access to technology. For example, families can choose to play board games or card games to support student development. Here is a link to some card games ideas:

The following resources are not UGDSB based and do not require a UGDSB login.  Note that additional accounts or sign-ins may need to be created, and any information provided will be held under the privacy policies of each website.

Students can have access to a digital collection of eBooks and audio books through Soraapp.com. Students can browse and borrow books from the website and read them on a digital device.

The public libraries, in our Board’s geographical area, offer online services that students can use to access reading material. The link to these websites can be found here:

Scholastic has prepared free resources that can be used at home by students. To access these lesson please use the following link: www.scholastic.com/learnathome

Zorbit’s Math, a K-3 math resource, has put together a home-learning kit that is filled with teacher-created and classroom-tested digital and offline math tools and ideas that will keep kids engaged, learning, and having tons of fun for as long as their school remains closed. BrainPop.com is another resource that has offered parents free access during the school shutdown. BrainPop is a group of educational websites with over 1,000 short animated movies for students in grades K-12 (ages 6 to 17), together with quizzes and related materials, covering the subjects of science, social studies, English, math, engineering and technology, health, and arts and music. To access this site parents can log in with the Username: UGDSB and the password:  UGDSB2020

Moving Edgeucation is another company that is offering free resources to parents. If you would like to sign up for access please use this link to create a log-in.

Parents should choose activities that are appropriate for their child regardless of their grade or special needs.  Activities should engage children and keep them thinking and learning.
