Mark Bailey elected Central West Regional Vice-President of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association

GUELPH, Ontario — Guelph trustee Mark Bailey was elected Central West Regional Vice-President of the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) at the organization’s Annual General Meeting held June 5 in Windsor Ontario.

Mr. Bailey was first elected to the Upper Grand District School Board in 2006 to represent the city Wards 1, 5 and 6, and plans to run again in the upcoming municipal election this October. He is married to Heidi Bailey, Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Guelph. The couple has two small children. His company, OTI Multimedia, provides information technology and new media solutions to business and government.

For the past two years, he has been a member of the provincial public school trustee association’s Education Program Work Group and was co-chair of OPSBA’s Information and Communications Technology Committee which authored “What If – Technology in the 21st Century Classroom”. He will also chair the Editorial Board for Education Today, OPSBA’s publication

“I’m looking forward to serving as our region’s vice-president and on OPSBA’s Executive Council,” he said.

“My vision is for our local public boards to work more closely together to increase student success, especially through effective learning technologies for the 21st century student.”

The Central West Region includes the Upper Grand board, the District School Board of Niagara, the Grand Erie, Halton, Hamilton Wentworth, Waterloo Region and Peel DSBs, as well as the Kid’s Ability and Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre school authorities. The region meets at least twice a year.

The association acclaimed Catherine Fife from the Waterloo Region DSB as President. OPSBA represents Ontario public district school boards and school authorities that serve 1.3 million Ontario students.
