Ministry funding to support adult learners in the UGDSB

June 30, 2017

GUELPH, Ontario – On June 30, the Honourable Liz Sandals, MPP for Guelph, visited Action Read in Guelph to announce funding for literacy and basic skills organizations in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin Counties.

Two of the organizations that will be receiving additional funding are the Upper Grand DSB Dufferin Centre for Continuing Education and the Upper Grand DSB Wellington Centre for Continuing Education.

Minister Sandals said, “This significant investment in essential skills training is great news for adult learners in Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin Counties. Ontario will double its support for Literacy and Basic Skills training over the next four years, and that will help more people in Guelph and Wellington and Dufferin Counties build the essential skills they need to find good jobs, advance their careers and fully contribute to their communities.”

Over the next four years, the UGDSB Dufferin Centre for Continuing Education will see an increase in funding of 16.5%, whereas the UGDSB Wellington Centre for Continuing Education will receive an increase of 15.2%.

The UGDSB is committed to literacy and continuing education, and are pleased that this increase in funding will impact our communities.
