Mono-Amaranth PS students celebrate Canada through Parks Canada video contest

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario –To celebrate Canada 150, Parks Canada wanted to showcase Canadian students through highlighting national historic sites, national parks and national marine conservation areas. Mono-Amaranth Public School students in Mrs. Thompson’s grade 8 class have submitted a video to Parks Canada.

Students were invited to create a short video about which Parks Canada place they would like to celebrate Canada’s 150th year in. Students at Mono-Amaranth PS picked Pacific Rim Park in British Columbia.

Pacific Rim National Park encompasses 511 square kilometres of land and ocean. It has rugged coasts and lush rainforests. Designated a national park in 1970, Pacific Rim National Park remains the oldest national park in Canada. In 1971 when the park opened, Princess Anne of England attended the ceremony.

Mrs. Thompson’s class created a 60-second video called Go to Pacific Rim, which highlights all the great things that Pacific Rim National Park has to offer. This contest was open to Grade 8 classes across Canada. The winning class will receive an all-expenses paid trip to Nova Scotia in June.
