Montgomery Village PS celebrates community members at GrandPals Gala

May 31, 2019

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – Students and staff at Montgomery Village Public School visited Chartwell Montgomery Village Retirement Residence on May 30 to celebrate the annual GrandPals Gala.

GrandPals brings together students and seniors, bridging generations and offering rich intergenerational programming. Students and seniors meet regularly throughout the school year, asking questions, sharing stories and developing friendships.

The GrandPals initiative was started several years ago at Montgomery Village PS and has evolved year after year to continue this special learning opportunity. The GrandPals project now takes place in multiple Dufferin area schools.

During the GrandPals Gala, 17 groups of students shared stories about their GrandPal. Family members and GrandPals in the audience heard stories written by each student about the life experiences of their GrandPal. Story topics included war, adoption, travel, love and marriage, loss and more.

The Gala concluded with a BBQ Dinner and sing along for everyone in attendance.

The bond between students and their GrandPal could be felt across the room and many students said they wish to continue a relationship with their GrandPal after the school year ends.
