Montgomery Village PS teachers win Excellence in Teaching Award

November 9, 2017

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – Two teachers from Montgomery Village Public School have been named recipients of the 2017 Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Marc Mailhot and Lynda Brown are being recognized for their work with the GrandPals program. Montgomery Village PS started the Grandpals program over five years ago. Due to the fact that many seniors do not have a regular connection with their grandchildren and, according to retirement home staff, some don’t have visitors at all, the school saw this as an opportunity to start something great. This program allows seniors and students to connect, get to know each other and develop genuine friendships.

The Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching recognizes Canadian teachers that inspire other teachers and students, as well as those who strive for excellence in Canadian history education.

Congratulations, Marc and Lynda on receiving this award!
