November 6, 2017

ORANGEVILLE, Ontario – Staff and students raised more than $19,000 for breast cancer research at Westside Secondary School’s Pink Day.

Pink Day is the school’s annual fundraiser for the Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BCSC) and their “Dress for the Cause” fundraising campaign.

Since the inaugural Pink Day in 2004, Westside has raised more than $139,000 for BCSC’s campaign.

Breast cancer awareness is a deeply personal issue for many at Westside. Pink Day brings out the hope and generosity of the school community. Every year, nearly all of the school’s 900 students show up to the Pink Day assembly wearing pink.

At this year’s assembly, held on Friday Nov. 3, staff and students faced off in a series of competitions, including a free throw competition, tug of war and quiz-show competition between staff.

In the days leading up to the assembly, students headed to the Cosmo room for pink highlights, ribbons and nails. During the assembly, people raised funds to see their heads get shaved, locks get chopped and legs get waxed. The school also hosted a pancake breakfast on Friday, accepting donations of $2 and up.

In 2015 and 2016, Westside was recognized as the top fundraiser in the country for “Dress for the Cause,” donating more than any other company or group in Canada.

Congratulations Westside on another amazing day of generosity and spirit!
