ODSS receives Premier’s Safe Schools Award

GUELPH, Ontario — Orangeville District Secondary School (ODSS) is just one of ten schools in Ontario to receive the Premier’s Safe School Award for 2010-2011.

“The Premier’s Safe Schools Awards recognizes exceptional and innovative work being done in schools to create a safe and caring school environment,” said an announcement from the Ontario Ministry of Education. “This year, ten safe schools teams are being recognized.”

“These teams have demonstrated initiative, creativity and leadership in promoting a safe and inclusive school climate. Their activities have led to positive changes in their school and school communities.”

ODSS will be receiving an 11×17 plaque, and individual members of the safe schools team will be getting certificates.

The following are some of the characteristics associated with a positive school climate:

“The staff of ODSS have worked really hard to help all students feel included and learn,” said school principal Darryl Kirkland. “This award recognizes that effort.”
