Ponsonby PS Grade 6 class to stay put, for now

MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release
December 19, 2013

GUELPH, Ontario – At the board meeting on Tuesday, December 17 trustees approved the final recommendations of the Ponsonby PS Boundary Review.

The plan is to move Grade 6 students from Ponsonby PS to Elora PS in 2015-2016 – or any year thereafter – if enrolment projections indicate that there will be more than 203 students at Ponsonby in a coming September.

The number of new students registering for Junior Kindergarten (JK) in the first week of February provides an early indicator of school enrolments. The Board uses these enrolment numbers to appropriately organize classes and allocate teaching resources across the district.

As of October 31, 2013 there were 153 students enrolled at Ponsonby PS. The Board expects the school’s enrolment will gradually increase over the coming years due to residential development inside the attendance area.

If and when enrolment projections do indicate Ponsonby PS will exceed 203 students, parents will be informed in late February or early March that the Grade 6 class will move to Elora PS the next school year.
