GUELPH, Ontario – The students at Rickson Ridge Public School are diving into the New Year with an engaging math challenge.

The students at Rickson Ridge Public School are diving into the New Year with an engaging math challenge.

Mrs. Stone’s math class kicked off the challenge, encouraging other students in the school to join in.

The challenge is for students to create each number listed on a large bulletin board in the school using only the digits 2, 0, 1, and 9. Repeating the digits is not allowed and students may use any mathematical symbol or operation in the solving, including multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, square root, decimal point, parentheses, factorial, raising to a power, and so on.

The idea for the 2019 Math Challenge came from an American educator with a passion for math, Sarah Carter.

The challenge is open to all students in the junior/intermediate hall at Rickson. Good luck students!
