Ross R. MacKay PS student uses education on concussions to help her mom

October 30, 2017

HILLSBURGH, Ontario – A student at Ross R. MacKay Public School took knowledge she learned at school and helped her mother in what could have been a scary situation.

Over the weekend, Mya’s mom was getting ready for a Halloween party when she accidentally hit her head on a doorway and then on the cement floor. When Mya’s mom regained her composure she went inside and asked Mya to sit with her.

Mya quickly and calmly took control of the situation. She checked her mom’s head, started asking questions like “how many fingers am I holding? Did you throw up? Are you seeing stars?” Mya was worried her mom had a concussion.

Mya said she learned some of the signs of a concussion at school and because of this knowledge was able to calmly help her mother.
