Salem PS success in the Mathematica Centrum math contest

June 6, 2016

SALEM, Ontario – Students at Salem Public School have placed above the national average in a nation-wide math contest.

Sixteen Salem students successfully participated in the Mathematica Centrum math contest in April. Grade 4 students participated in the Byron Germain contest and grade 5 students in the Fibonacci contest.

Students at both levels placed above the national average. Salem’s school champions are Leah in grade 4 and Anray in grade 5, both of whom scored significantly above the national average and were awarded Certificates of Distinction.

This is the first year the school has participated in the national contest. School staff are looking forward to further supporting students to become competent, enthusiastic mathematicians.

Since 1990, more than one million students in Canada and the United States have participated in the math contests, which are designed to challenge and promote problem solving skills.
