Schools use daily announcements to connect with students from a distance
April 17, 2020
GUELPH, Ontario – In another creative effort to reach students during distance learning, schools have been re-creating daily announcements, a mainstay in schools prior to the provincial school closures.
It’s just another example of innovative teachers and school staff reaching out to students to create a sense of normalcy and familiarity during unfamiliar times.
Many schools began creating and send out daily announcements from the beginning of the school closures and the response from families has been very positive.
See below for just a few examples of UGDSB schools’ daily announcements.
Staff at College Heights Secondary School have been posting daily announcements on the school website since day one of the closure. Announcements include a rocking song of the day and daily video announcement featuring staff at the school. At Palmerston Public School, daily announcements have included photos of art done by Palmerston PS students and families, links to fun videos and songs so the school can ‘dance it out,’ and helpful resources for distance learning.
