Second report released for Ponsonby PS Boundary Review

GUELPH, Ontario — The second report of the Ponsonby PS Boundary Review has been posted to the Upper Grand District School Board website at www.ugdsb.ca/pbr.

The distribution of Report #2 comes in advance of its presentation at a public information session on Thursday, November 14. The document will be presented to trustees at the Tuesday, November 12 meeting of the Business Operations Committee.

The board launched the review in September because enrolment projections for Ponsonby PS anticipate the school will be overcapacity by 2015. Elora PS was included in this boundary review as it accommodates Grade 7&8 students from Ponsonby PS and given its proximity. Ponsonby PS is a JK-6 school with 190 pupil places andElora PS is a JK-8 school with 475 pupil places.

The staff boundary review committee has put forward two scenarios for consideration.

In the first scenario, which is preferred by staff, enrolment at the two schools would be balanced by shifting Grade 6 from Ponsonby to Elora. This would mean students at Ponsonby would attend Elora PS one year earlier.

The second scenario proposes that the boundary maps for Elora PS and Ponsonby PS be slightly redrawn, reassigning residences in the area of Hill Street. In the current school year 12 students from this area attend Ponsonby PS, but in this scenario, would move to Elora PS.

The boundary review committee is recommending that any grade level or boundary changes not become effective until September 2015.

Report #2 will be presented the public information session on November 14, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Ponsonby PS. There will be a staff presentation, a question and answer session, displays of data and maps, and an opportunity to provide feedback.
