SHSM students participate in a Health and Wellness Day

November 20, 2023

GUELPH, ON – On November 10, 2023, in an effort to bridge generational gaps and foster a sense of community awareness, Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Health and Wellness students had the unique opportunity to participate in a Health and Wellness Day, which was hosted at John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute.

During the day, students heard from a guest speaker, Christine Hames, Director of the Program for Active Living at Schlegel Villages, which is a retirement and long-term care facility.

Hames provided an overview of the organization’s mission and values. Students were then introduced to the concept of inclusive and compassionate care for the elderly, highlighting the various programs and services offered by Schlegel Villages to enhance the quality of life for seniors.

Hames session on Schlegel Villages proved to be a meaningful and enlightening experience for UG students. By fostering understanding and empathy, the day not only broke down stereotypes about aging but also inspired the next generation to contribute to the well-being of seniors in their community.
