Staff and students celebrate Dr. Winegard’s birthday

The staff and students at William C. Winegard Public School in Guelph celebrated the birth of the school’s namesake on Friday.

Dr. Winegard gathered with the school community outside as they sang “Happy Birthday” and presented him with a card.

The school has been carrying on the tradition since it the building opened its doors three years ago.

Dr. Winegard served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and was President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Guelph from 1967 to 1975 – among many notable accomplishments. He will turn 92 on Saturday.
