Students and staff bundled up for Winter Walk Day
February 5, 2020
GUELPH, Ontario – Students and staff braved the cold today to celebrate Winter Walk Day. Winter Walk Day is celebrated the first Wednesday of February each year and encourages students and staff to walk or wheel to and from school.
Since walking or wheeling to school is not an option for many students, many schools in the Upper Grand District School Board set aside time during the day to participate in a winter walk through the school yard or neighbourhood.
Many staff members joined in on the fun as well. At the Guelph Board Office, staff bundled up for the noon hour and set out on a brisk winter walk.
This year, more than 20 UGDSB schools registered with Ontario Active School Travel for Winter Walk Day.
Winter Walk Day is a fun and engaging way to get students actively enjoying nature, while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
