Students and teachers from Japan tour Centre Wellington DHS

October 6, 2016

FERGUS, Ontario – On September 23, 2016, the leadership students of Centre Wellington District High School welcomed 20 students and two teachers from Japan’s Toyota East Technical School travelling with Muskoka Language International.

During an amazing opening ceremony with performances and prepared presentations from the Toyota school, Centre Wellington students sat patiently and respectfully, intrigued as they waited to be united with their partner for the day.

Both schools had many cultural activities planned and Centre Wellington students were eager and ready to show the Toyota students their amazing school. They partnered up and took their Japanese buddy to one class in the morning and then had lunch with them. During lunch, the students participated in a photo scavenger hunt competition where they completed tasks and took pictures throughout the entire school.

In the afternoon, the Toyota students prepared several games and activities to teach Centre Wellington students a little bit about their culture. CW students had the opportunity to rotate through multiple activities, learning and having fun as they went.

At the end of the day, the students said their goodbyes as best they could in both languages, and hugged all their partners goodbye. It truly gave students a different perspective on being open and friendly to all. The Toyota students left that day with smiles on their faces and tiny Canadian flags in hand. CWDHS is proud to say that our International exchange day was a hit and everyone involved would do it again in a heartbeat.
