Students in Grades 7 to 12 to attend second annual R.I.S.E. Conference

GUELPH, Ontario — More that 300 students, teachers, principals and other educators are scheduled to attend the Upper Grand District School Board’s second annual, one-day R.I.S.E. Conference on Friday, May 8 at the University of Guelph.

The R.I.S.E. Conference – Recognizing Internal Strength for Empowerment – brings students together to be inspired to overcome any barriers they may have, achieve their goals and be successful community members. The keynote speaker, MTV celebrity Jeff Yalden, a motivator and educator who has entertained audiences around the world, will bring a message of making better choices for a better life.

The program also offers a series of 23 hands-on workshops including Tai Chi, Youth Gambling, Money and You, Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and Restorative Justice. Those in attendance will choose three sessions to attend. The day begins at 8:30 a.m. with the welcome and keynoted address in the Rosanski building on the university campus.

The program is organized by the board’s Student Success Interventions Team.
