Superintendent of Education appointed

GUELPH, Ontario – Bonnie Talbot, an educator with 22 years of experience in the Upper Grand District School Board and former Dufferin County Board of Education, has been appointed as Superintendent of Schools effective February 1, 2012. She replaces Superintendent Rosemary Fyfe, who retires January 31, 2012.
As the Superintendent for the elementary schools in East Wellington and Dufferin County Bonnie will oversee the operation of 18 schools with 26 principals and vice-principals, and assume numerous portfolio responsibilities including Accessibility, Healthy Schools and the New Teacher Induction Program.
Currently the board’s Principal of Program, she supervises the Curriculum Department and Special Education staff, coordinates professional development for JK to grade 12, and chairs the Assessment and Evaluation Committee and the Special Education Review Committee. Bonnie is a member of Tech Council and the Academic Tech Council, as well as provides leadership for the Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement.
Bonnie has a Bachelor of Education with a major in Special Education and a Masters in Education with a major in Curriculum. In her 22 year career Bonnie has been a special education and classroom teacher, and teacher librarian at East Garafraxa, Grand Valley and Princess Margaret public schools. Her vice-principal assignments were at Princess Margaret and Grand Valley and District schools (1998-2000). Following that she served as principal at Rockwood Centennial and Elora public schools (2000–2009) and was appointed as Principal of Program for the Board in 2009.
Bonnie is married to a secondary school teacher with the board and has three daughters aged 14 to 21 years old.
