MEDIA RELEASE from the GUELPH POLICE SERVICE

For Immediate Release
September 20, 2012

GUELPH, Ontario — The Guelph Police would like to advise that over the past several days there have been four documented “Choking” game incidents in Guelph high schools.

How do they play?

The youths cut off the flow of blood to their brain, in exchange for a few Seconds of feeling lightheaded.

According to the www.gaspinfo.com website, some youths strangle themselves with a belt, a rope or their bare hands; others push on their chest of hyperventilate. When they release the pressure, blood that was blocked up quickly floods the brain. This sets off a warm fuzzy or euphoric feeling, which is just
the brain dying, thousands of cells at a time.

This is not a game; it is potentially a life-threatening act.

You can download a GASP Brochure or get more details at www.gaspinfo.com.

Together we can educate our parents and teens and end this deadly game in our community.
