Turtle Island Heritage Festival 2018 Youth Award submissions are being accepted

April 3, 2018

GUELPH, Ontario – The Upper Grand District School Board is seeking nominees for this year’s Turtle Island Heritage Festival Youth Award.

The Turtle Island Heritage Festival is an event hosted by the Wellington County Museum and Archives in coordination with the UGDSB, the Grand River Métis Council, and other representatives from the community.

The purpose of the festival is to celebrate the history and culture of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Wellington County and its surrounding communities.

The organizing committee will present the Youth Award annually at the festival to a secondary student of Indigenous ancestry attending a school with the UGDSB that has demonstrated leadership qualities in the community and in the promotion of Indigenous culture.

The committee will receive nominations and will decide on the recipient of the award each year. The recipient will be presented with an award certificate and a bursary generously donated by the Rotary Club of Guelph in the amount of $500.00.

Nomination forms are available online at the Wellington County Museum’s website and at schools throughout the UGDSB. The candidate is welcome to self-nominate or to be nominated by others.
