UG students win at DramaFest competition

March 4, 2024

GUELPH, ON – Several Upper Grand District School Board students recently participated in DramaFest.

According to its website, DramaFest “is a platform for young people to exercise their empathy, their listening skills, their sense of community, to have conversations about the complicity of the world. It is a place to safely explore self-expression, trust and friendship.”

Between February 28 and March 1, 2024, students from all over Waterloo, Guelph and Wellington County came together to share their performances.

Students from Centre Wellington District High School shared a play called Jump Station, written and directed by student Ailish O. Ailish won the Adjudicator’s Award of Excellence for playwriting, directing and producing. Milica G won the Festival Stage Manager’s Award of Excellence. Throughout the festival, CWDHS had about 25 students involved in the show.

Students from John F Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute performed their play renAIssance. Students Sydney J, Ronin S, Chloe A, Sadie P, Joey C and Blake L, took home an award of excellence for the lighting, sound, and projections. The entire cast and crew took home one of two Outstanding Performance Awards, which means that of the seven productions that were adjudicated, renAIssance was one of the best shows. This production from John F Ross CVI will now move on to compete at Regionals in Gravenhurst next month.

Congratulations to all UG students and staff who were involved in DramaFest.
