GUELPH, Ontario – On October 25, students from Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute and College Heights Secondary School visited community partners in the residential construction business for the second annual Residential Construction Day.

Students began their day at Habitat for Humanity’s City View Homes where they received a safety demonstration and learned about the innovative ways Habitat for Humanity is approaching affordable housing in our community.

Students then traveled to the Gemini Homes build site where they received a tour and learned about Net-zero building standards. Students also had the privilege of hearing from City of Guelph Building Inspectors during the day.

Students visited the Hy-Mark Mechanical facility in Guelph. Hy-Mark graciously hosted students for a luncheon and tour of their facilities. During this tour, students had the opportunity to hear from apprentices in the field of plumbing.

Ending the day, students traveled to Sarmazian Flooring to engage in an interactive information session about flooring. Students first toured the showroom at this location and heard from staff about the sales aspect of the flooring industry. Following this, students took part in a hands on activity which educated them about the installation process of carpet, tile, and hardwood.
