UGDSB students capture 5 gold medals at provincial skills competition

GUELPH, Ontario – Students from the Upper Grand District School Board had a strong showing at the provincial skills competition, taking home medals and securing their spots at the national competition.
The Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC) for secondary students was held from May 2 to 4 at RIM Park in Waterloo.
Upper Grand students won five gold medals in a variety of events.
Gold medal winners:
- Julia, John F. Ross CVI, Hairstyling – coached by Jenni-Lee Kumagai
- Zachary, Centre Wellington DHS, IT and Network System Administration – coached by Tim King
- Dillon, Centre Wellington DHS, Job Interview – coached by Jenny Ritter
- Jade, Centre Wellington DHS, Workplace Safety – coached by Jenny Ritter
- Kaden, John F. Ross CVI, Computer Aided Manufacturing — coached by Rey Morales
Silver medal winners:
- Sully, Alex, Trent and Gord, Wellington Heights SS, Home and Team Building, Team of 4
Julia, Zachary, Dillon and Jade will now head to the Skills Canada national competition, which will be held from June 5 to 8 in Moncton, New Brunswick (unfortunately, there is no national competition in Computer Aided Manufacturing). More than 500 students will compete in more than 40 skilled trade and technology challenges. It’s the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in Canada.
