UGDSB students compete at Golden Horseshoe Music Festival

Congratulations to Erin DHS, Centennial CVI, Guelph CVI, and John F Ross CVI who all placed at last week’s Golden Horseshoe Music Festival in Ancaster.
This music competition brings some of the best school music programs from across southwestern Ontario, and is a qualifier for the Musicfest Canada Nationals, which will take place in Niagara Falls in May. Below are the results of all participating Upper Grand DSB schools:
- Erin DHS Temp Band – Gold
- Centennial spARTanS Symphonic Ensemble – Silver
- Centennial spARTanS Concert Ensemble – Gold
- Centennial spARTanS Stage Band – Silver
- Centennial spARTanS Acoustics – Silver
- GCVI Jr Symphonic Band – Gold
- GCVI Sr Symphonic Band – Gold
- GCVI Gael Force Stage Band – Gold
- JF Ross Concert Band – Gold
- JF Ross Symphonic Band – Gold
The most exciting news is that every group from the UGDSB was invited to perform at Nationals. These groups will be joining three additional groups from GCVI (GCVI Orchestra, GCVI String Ensemble, GCVI Chamber Choir) and a group from Westside who have already qualified for Nationals earlier this year. That makes a record setting 14 ensembles from UGDSB who have been invited to Nationals.
