UGDSB students participate in annual Upper Grand ETFO Chess Tournament

ABERFOYLE, Ontario – The 13th annual Upper Grand ETFO Chess Tournament took place at the Puslinch Community Centre in Aberfoyle on April 5.

This year’s tournament was made up of 153 players in grades 1 to 8 from 14 schools across the Upper Grand DSB.

Students were divided by grade into primary, junior and intermediate divisions for the tournament.

The tournament saw great success from students of all ages:

Grade 1 – 1st and 2nd place went to Aberfoyle PS
Grade 2 – 1st place went to Eramosa PS
Grade 3 – the top three spots went to William C. Winegard PS

Grade 4 – 1st place went to Waverley Drive PS, 2nd place went to King George PS and 3rd place went to Taylor Evans PS
Grade 5 – 1st place went to Brisbane PS and 2nd and 3rd place went to John McCrae PS
Grade 6 – 1st place went to Eramosa PS and 2nd and 3rd place went to Waverley Drive PS

Grade 7 – 1st and 2nd place went to Arbour Vista PS and 3rd went to Westminster Woods PS
Grade 8 – 1st place and 2nd place went to Waverley Drive PS and 3rd went to John McCrae PS

The top schools by division were:

Primary – William C. Winegard PS
Junior – Waverley Drive PS
Intermediate – Arbour Vista PS
