GUELPH, Ontario — The Upper Grand District School Board reached a tentative agreement with secondary school teachers on Saturday, November 17 at 5 a.m.
The deal must still be approved by the Minister of Education and ratified by trustees and local members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF).
Secondary teachers were advised by union officials to suspend sanctions that began a week ago.
The Board is continuing to negotiate with other local bargaining units:
- Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO) representing elementary teachers and occasional elementary teachers.
- OSSTF occasional teachers.
- OSSTF support staff (Educational Assistants, Early Childhood Educators, Office/Clerical/Technical, Speech and Language, Child and Youth Workers, and Social Workers).
- Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) representing custodial workers.
Elementary teachers are not in a legal strike position, but have been urged by their union leadership to “take a pause” on voluntary activities. Work-to-rule sanctions by OSSTF support staff are ongoing.
