MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release
May 2, 2013

GUELPH,Ontario– The Ministry of Education has designated the week of May 6 – May 10 as Education Week – a time to “celebrate our accomplishments and reflect on new and exciting challenges ahead.” In the Upper Grand District School Board, this week has been extended from mid-April to mid-May to allow schools the flexibility to plan events and activities to encourage the participation of as many parents, staff, students and community members as possible.

This year’s theme is “Learning for tomorrow/Lapprentissage pour l’avenir”. Education Week in the Upper Grand District School Board will officially open on Monday May 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Westside Secondary School located at 300 Alder Street, Orangeville.

Symbolizing the ongoing cooperation between the public and separate school boards, the Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board are once again producing bookmarks decorated by elementary students. The bookmarks will be placed in libraries across the District for distribution.

During the month-long Education Week celebrations, both parents and the general public have many opportunities to witness the quality of work produced by students. There are a host of activities that showcase the excellence in schools, including open houses, science fairs, exhibits of literary and artistic work, band and choir concerts, and operettas. A list of events is posted on the Board’s website: www.ugdsb.ca

The Upper Grand District School Board encourages everyone to take a few minutes and visit a neighbourhood school(s) to observe the many accomplishments of students and staff. Check the website or contact your local school for more details …and come celebrate Education Week!
