Upper Grand’s Everday Hero Awards 2013

MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release
May 30, 2013

GUELPH, Ontario — Trustees of the Upper Grand District School Board are pleased to announce the 2013 winners of the board’s Everyday Hero Awards.

From a crossing guard who was “just doing her job” when she ran in front of a truck that was going to hit one of our students, to the teachers/coaches of the Centre Dufferin DHS Boys Hockey Team who helped the school bring home the OFSSA championship during a time of labour unrest, every nominee and winner is an Everyday Hero.

From a field of 27 nominees, including groups of people, the Selection Committee had a difficult job of choosing the winners.

“At one point we were worried that we would not get enough nominations”, said Mark Bailey, Chair of the board. “In the end, however, they came pouring in and we picked the best of the best”.

Honoured at a ceremony held on Wednesday, May 29 at the E. L. Fox Auditorium at John F. Ross CVI in Guelph, the 21 winners accepted their awards from their local trustee and were treated to entertainment by the cast of Annie, from Erin Public School. A reception with light refreshments was also held for the nominees, winners and their families and friends in the school’s cafeteria following the ceremony.

The annual program honours those people in the school system that go the extra mile to make learning and teaching in the Upper Grand District School Board an event worth celebrating. They are nominated by their peers and students.

Congratulations to our Everyday Heroes
